    • UNM BEMP office at the UNM Department of Biology
This summer the Bosque Ecosystem Monitoring Program(BEMP) is offering up to two high school students an opportunity to intern with the UNM division of BEMP. This is an opportunity to experience the work of biologists in the field and lab.

Each student will earn $9.50/hour and will work a total of 105 hours throughout the summer, earning roughly $1,000.  Students will participate in all BEMP monthly monitoring activities, such as monitoring groundwater depths, collecting leaf litter, trapping and identifying insects, weighing and sorting leaf litter, collecting groundwater chemistry data, and … last but not least… trail maintenance! Yes, this job involves some hard physical labor!

Hours and days are flexible except for the weeks of June 11, June 17 and July 15. Working at least two days each week during these time periods is mandatory. Orientation is on May 29.

The start date is June 3. The ideal schedule for interns is to work Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of each week for some portion of the 8am to 5pm work day. There is some flexibility. You will be paid through Bosque School but will be working at the UNM BEMP office at the UNM Department of Biology.

Applications will be accepted until 5 PM on Friday, April 12. Email your application as an attachment to Jennifer Schuetz at schuetz@unm.edu. Applicants must have a valid social security number to be considered and previous BEMP experience a plus! A background check will be conducted.
